2007 Canadians Slalom Postponed to August
To confirm strong advice and opinion of virtually all West Coast sailors
from Vancouver to the Gorge that this weekend at Squamish will be wet (rain)
and calm or low wind, and therefore with cancellations of travel plans and
registrations announced and received, we have decided:
To postpone the 2007 WC Canadian Slalom Championships
slated for July 20-21 at Squamish. (Because of the nature of this
type of competition, we have to be reasonably certain that suitable conditions
will prevail; unfortunately the few weeks of very high winds and strong sunshine
have given out and it will be a week or so before the usual sunny and windy
Howe Sound weather returns.)
Because of the general high interest up to now in the event,
we will make a big effort to run a 2-day weekend event in August. There are
conflicting events in the first two weeks of August but if good conditions
look certain, a local event will be held -- we have the organization in place,
and the sponsorships, and a strong desire to hold a West Coast Slalom event.
Good conditions will return, and an expert fleet is ready and waiting,
John Darling, WC Chair.
PS: for Eastern members of WC, there are two events: the Masters Championships
at Cold River (Ottawa River; course racing with a possibility of slalom)
over the long August 1st weekend, and the CORK 2 ''Classes'' event (Kingston,
Aug. 23-26) featuring course racing with a possibility of slalom.
Early September
will see the Toronto Windsurfing Club long-distance around Toronto Islands
and OSA #3 course racing and a new event, in mid-September, a Freestyle event
at Kingston organized by Philip Soltysiak and the KBA.
Various late
September and early October events are also available at Three Rivers, Quebec
and again at CORK, Kingston.
On the Prairies,
the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships take place over the Labor Day weekend
at Regina Beach.
